The Creative Quests
The subtitle of this creative compendium is “The Reawakening of Curiosity.”
I know it sounds corny, yet I would even go further and say that the Creative Quests is not just a book about creativity—it’s a portal to your creativity that has the potential to make you see the world with entirely different eyes.
You might not believe me at the moment, yet you might believe one of the greatest artists who ever lived when he said:
After working in the creative industry for 20 years, I truly think Picasso was right and it took me to two conclusions:
Everyone is creative.
Creativity is a skill—it can be trained.
Doubt it? That’s fine, yet the Creative Quests is my approach to prove it to you.
How do I know it’ll work? Because I’ve experienced every stage myself—from denying my own creativity to the moment I realized and said out loud, ‘I can’t believe I made this!’
This journey taught me that skills matter much more than talent. I want to train these specific skills with you to take your creativity to the next level and live a more curious and courageous life.
After completing the Quests, you’ll maximize your creative confidence, empowering you to pursue any goal you set for yourself. You will:
Acknowledge your creativity
Master creative thinking as a skill
Unlock your hidden potential
Realize the sole magic lies in the act
Rediscover the world with wonder and naivety
Surprise yourself with seeing new connections
Understand yourself better
Seek and enjoy solitude
Solve problems with elegance
Appreciate children as our best mentors
So, what’s so special about the Quests? And exactly...
What Awaits if You Dare to Play?
It’s so much more than you might think at this point. The Creative Quests is a unique 3-in-1 guide for self-discovery and mastering your creativity.
Although it’s an ebook, the Quests, and the progress system are designed to enjoy analog. All you need is a printer, some pens, and the courage to play again.
Before we go deeper into the three chapters, please allow me to go on a quick rant about today's dilemma most of us face:
We are constantly targeted by weapons of mass distraction equipped with algorithms and cute kitty cat videos. That’s the contemporary enemy of the creative act—not a lack of passion, resources, or time. Everything and everyone seems to demand our most valuable asset: our attention.
And the enemy is even charging its ultimate booster strike right now: Soon, AI will allow us to generate 12-minute Hollywood blockbusters starring Jennifer Lawrence, a young Henry Fonda, and our dog while we wait for the bus.
Boredom, space, and time to think, listen, or confront ourselves in silence will be gone if we let it happen. But these are the places where our creativity unfolds.
So, what can we do? We need to …
… by focusing on creating instead of consuming.
Please don't get me wrong. Even though it sounds like it, I don't want to demonize technological progress—neither social media, the flood of movies, series, games, new apps, nor artificial intelligence. I really believe in a healthy coexistence and our ability to work with—not live for— technology.
All I want to say is that we desperately need to consciously decide what we want to pay attention to and what not.
Time to Play Seriously
Distraction is just a fingertip away nowadays, and simply writing another book about the immense joy of creating won't cut it.
Reading about the beauty of the Grand Canyon won’t take us there. We must book the flight and go. Reading about the fastest way to get into shape won't give us sore muscles. We must lace up the shoes and push weights.
The same goes for the creative act. To let it transform our lives, we must take action.
Providing hands-on exercises is a good start—yet even that's not enough. Many books offer great creative exercises, but how often do we actually sit down and start when no one asks us to? I know, I rarely do it myself.
So, I needed to find a way to not only get you started immediately but to make the creative act as addictive as your smartphone.
How could I do that? The answer lies in the ingredients of the enemy:
The Gamification of the Creative Act
The mission is to make the creative act irresistible through classic, dopamine-boosting gaming mechanics, such as
A reward system
Instant gratification
Visual progression
Multiplayer elements
Personalization
Collectible items
Unlockable features
The Creative Quests invite you to constantly live in a state of play and discovery, transforming your thinking and enhancing every aspect of your life.
So again, what do you get for your money?
A Real-Life Action-Adventure Game
As mentioned you receive not just a book—it’s a three-part playful road map to unlock your creativity:
1. The Playbook
180 pages about the wonderful force every human possesses, yet most of us rarely use: creativity.
(You can download a reading sample in the Demo with the chapter “Who are the Quests for?” here.)
Where do ideas come from? How does an artist see the world? Discover why you already have what it takes to become an idea-generating pro.
The Playbook shares inspiring stories of human invention, first-hand experiences, and unique insights from a professional freelance illustrator who went through the whole process—from self-doubts, creative insecurities, lack of ideas, frustration, and fear of failure and criticism to an idea-generating, process-enjoying, visual expert who over the years built the creative confidence to just figure things out.
But again, it's not just another book about the creative act and my personal view. Instead, see the Playbook as a manual for a video game you just bought and read how to play it. Get to know the rules of the creative act and its enemies. Delve into the story and discover the basic tools and skills you are about to master.
2. The Tutorial
A step-by-step guide on how to play the game and keep track of your progress.
In the Tutorial, you get to know:
What the Quests look like
How the Quests are structured
How the Quest Cards work
How to use the printable worksheets
How to keep track of your achievements
How to unlock the main game
3. The Creative Quests
More than 50 hands-on exercises that will foster various creativity skills. They are fun, challenging, adventurous, and have the potential to reveal your calling.
Think about it as an analog action-adventure game like Zelda or Final Fantasy:
Within three difficulty levels, you'll collect points and items, expand your equipment, develop your skills, connect with creative peers, explore unknown territory, discover challenging side quests, and keep track of your progress while facing and conquering creative villains such as procrastination, perfectionism, and writer's block.
You'll learn and experience so much more about yourself and your world along your journey to becoming the Master of Curiosity.
What’s the Catch?
As a 90s kid, I’d jump out of bed early on Saturdays to play games or watch cartoons and as someone who loves video games, I must admit:
YES, gaming and watching movies are great and fun.
But the satisfaction you experience consuming is nothing compared to the flow of creative play—this state when you lose track of time, forget to sleep or eat while you work on your own novel, paint a picture, build a piece of furniture, or whatever it is you are bringing to existence. It's the same state of mind full of imagination, fantasy, and intuition as when you were a kid playing with your Lego bricks or action figures or building wooden shacks in the forest.
I want to help you find your creative outlet—the one that makes you jump out of bed on a Saturday eager to create, not consume.
However, here's the crux: Creativity isn't plug-and-play like the Nintendo64, Netflix, or TikTok. The creative act demands a simple yet powerful first step: pick up the tools and start.
Nobody can make this initial effort vanish, yet Creative Quests offers dozens of exciting adventures to help you begin and kickstart your journey. So please, grab that pen and take the leap. I promise you won't regret it.
Think of entertainment as fast food—easy to get, and the more you consume, the quicker you feel sick. Finding your creative channel is like a marriage. There might be ups and downs—but, in the end, it's the love of your life.
The creative you equipped with a notebook can make a change!
There is something tangible with ground-shaking value within you. Please do us all a favor and don't hold back anymore. We need your ideas, your vision, and your uniqueness today more than ever.
My Wish for You
Have a wonderful time playing the Quests and rediscover the joy of creating. I hope they spark your curiosity and build your creative confidence.
By that, I mean not knowing what you create but knowing that you will create. It's a calming certainty in you that somehow you will figure it out—whatever it is you are working on. Acting creatively means not only entering a void but also deciding to enjoy it. The child in you didn't know what the wooden hut would end up looking like, but it still decided to put the stick on top of the other and see in curiosity what would happen.
What I want to tell you is:
Give yourself permission to play. Be ridiculous, embrace mistakes and your childlike ideas—make your mind a playground again, and you'll realize that you start prioritizing consuming your inner content over external content. No video game, no reel, or movie is more exciting than exploring your inner treasures.
Click-and-Play
Ok, I'm done pitching. Thank you for sticking with me this far. I appreciate your time and attention. At this point, I invite you to play the Tutorial for free in the Demo to get an actual impression of what you are about to experience.
Now it's time. Let's pinch the child in you, unlock your curiosity, and shoot your mind to another time and space.
One more thing:
Each Creative Quest is inspired by many creative encounters throughout my life. Some are based on creative exercises I learned in university, some are inspired by projects from creative peers I admire or lessons I've learned as a freelance illustrator. But most importantly:
These Quests are for you!
I want them to be as accessible, easy to understand, and helpful as possible. Please share your feedback if you notice mistakes or if anything can be improved. Just drop me an email at sergio@ingravalle.de. I'd appreciate it as I will consider all suggestions and, over time, share an updated version of the Creative Quests with you.
Thanks again very much, and may the creative force be with you ;)
